Preferred Qualifications:
- High School Graduate or associate’s degree or higher in office management or 5 years or more of related occupational experience.
- Good computer keyboard and database entry skills with working knowledge of Word, Excel, and other databases.
- Strong telephone and face-to-face communication skills.
- Demonstrated appreciation for veterans and veterans’ rights and benefits.
- Ability to work in both a team-focused environment and independently.
- Ability to maintain the confidentiality of sensitive client personal and financial information.
- Ability to be insured by the County Risk Management to drive county-owned vehicles when necessary.
Responsibilities:
- Manage drive-thru window.
- Monitor and maintain the resource room.
- Answer, screen, forward telephone calls, and take and relay messages to staff members when needed.
- Receive grocery vouchers and receipts from local stores.
- Review receipts to ensure the validity of purchases.
- Prepare grocery vouchers, receipts, and invoices to submit to the Auditor’s Office for payment.
- Log and track grocery vouchers issued to FA clients.
- Contact FA clients as directed.
- Obtain documentation, signatures, etc., from clients as directed by FA and VSOs.
- Submit DD-214 requests through NPRC and/or other local entities.
- Collect, scan, and log DD-214s as they come into the office.
- Work with local funeral homes requesting DD-214s for deceased veterans and their families.
- Welcomes visitors to the office and answers basic questions about office operations.
- Greet walk-in customers and other visitors and direct them to appropriate staff members.
- Contribute to office security by helping to monitor visitors’ access.
- Obtain or send information or documents using a computer, mail, or fax machine.
- Perform other administrative support tasks, such as keeping appointment calendars.
- Copy, file, and maintain documents and records.
- Collect, sort, distribute, and prepare mail and courier deliveries.
- Process and prepare travel vouchers or other documents.
- Must be able to lift 25 pounds.
- Assist veterans as needed in the resource room with operating a computer and printer.
- Ensure the waiting room is kept in a presentable manner and is ready for visitors’ use.
- Driving to drop off mail or other documents to County Offices and or other businesses.
- Distribution of vouchers and checks to clients.
- Maintain filing and shredding of documents as directed by VSOs, investigators and/or Director.
- May involve supervision of other employees.

General Job Information:
- Will be responsible for driving a county vehicle to pick up and drop off veterans at their medical appointments inside and outside Lorain County.
- Must have a valid driver’s license and be approved by Lorain County to drive county vehicles.
- Vacation or sick time may be available with this position, and no medical insurance will be available. Compensation time will accrue when earned.
- Honorably discharged veterans will have preference.
Responsibilities:
Arrange with the Transportation Coordinator to maintain management of van riding personnel daily per Transportation Policy and Procedures of the Lorain County Veteran Service Commission. Hours of operation preferred are between the hours of 4:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. (external factors such as number of veterans, traffic, weather, and departure times can affect the hours worked each day.)
- The driver must at all times be courteous to the riders, employees at the various clinics and always obey the traffic laws and regulations of the State of Ohio and Lorain County.
- Notify the Transportation Coordinator immediately of any no-shows on your schedule or problems with departure times.
- Deliver passengers to their appointments at the Wade Park VA Medical Facility, Parma VA Out-Patient Clinic, or Sheffield VA Out-Patient Clinic as determined by the schedule.
- Must be able to offer some assistance to veterans that may need help getting into the vehicles.
- Must be able to transport veterans properly who use wheelchairs if the need arises. Training for this will be coordinated through the Veterans Service Office.
- Drivers per instructions must do daily checks of vehicle condition and documentation.
- The cleanliness of the vehicles is the responsibility of the driver. Any mechanical or other problems beyond the driver’s abilities must be reported to the Transportation Coordinator immediately.
- The employee will be required to pass a pre-employment drug screening and be approved by the county risk management to operate county vehicles.
- The employee must be willing to submit to random drug screenings as required by the Transportation Coordinator or Executive Director.
